Over the winter we’ve been working to meet the requirements for our survey so we can carry fare-paying passengers from time to time. Kids still travel free.
We’ve been upgrading the electrical system to comply with regulations; we’ve lowered the topmast for varnishing and to replace the topmast shrouds. The sails have been inspected; some minor re-stitching is needed. Still lots to do. On 5th October we plan to sail to Half Moon Bay for the rig inspection, radio check, compass adjustment and electrical sign off.
The sailing program is published here. The initial objective is crew training and practice, including guest skippers.
If you’d like to sail on any of these dates contact Bernard, email bernard.rhodes@gmail.com or phone 027 228 1334.
Meanwhile, our next public event is an Open Day at the Waiheke Marina, on Sunday 20th of September from 1- 3 pm. to mark the Spring Equinox. Do come on board to have a look around and bring the kids too. The Wellermen duo will be entertaining us with sea songs and shanties in this very appropriate setting! It’s all free but koha donations are always welcome
Also note our annual fundraising Boat Gear Sale will be at the Waiheke Boating Club from 9.30 – 12 noon on the Saturday of Labour Weekend, 24th October. Have a dig around your shed or onboard for any useable boat gear or books you can part with. Call Paul on 0274989634 to drop off donations beforehand or bring them on the day
Wishing you all happy sailing for the summer of 2026/7.
Bernard.
